Portfolio Requirements/Directions
You will share your digital portfolio with other Journalism students, and I hope you will continue to use it in the future to showcase your writing.
1. Go to www.weebly.com to create your portfolio website. Think of a good name for it, but please do not include your first and last name-- one or the other is fine. You may be able to use this same portfolio in your English class. Set up the free page-- you do not need your own domain (unless you want to pay for it). Your website name will be www.whateveryoumakeitbe.weebly.com.
2. You will need 3 pages at the top; Home, Journalism, & Riptide Reader. If you want to include other pages, please feel free to do so (like pages for English class). Home will be automatically created.
3. The Home Page (where you are reading this) will be your Autobiography of a Writer. This is your introduction to your Writing Portfolio. Share anything that is relevant to you and writing. You can find the directions by clicking the Autobiography of a Writer link.
4. The Riptide Reader Page will show the articles and photographs you do for the newspaper, even if it doesn't get published. At the bottom of the page, write a reflection that explains what you learned about writing from each element. Be sure to password protect this page if it reveals what city you live in or anything about the school you go to.
5. The Journalism Page will include all independent activities you did for class, such as AP Style tests, journalism research, and typing tests. Write a paragraph or two about anything you did for the newspaper that isn't an article or photo-- soliciting advertisements, designing pages, working on distribution, creating a game. At the bottom of the page, write a reflection that explains what you learned about teamwork, journalism, or life from these activities.
You can post anything you want on any other pages-- maybe you've written fan fiction, or a poem in sixth grade, or a story that you've never shown anyone, or an essay or personal narrative from your English class. This is an area for you to showcase your writing or any other interests. Instead of this page you may also have pages for your English portfolio, depending on what your English teacher requires.
When you are ready to show it, click the Publish button. You can publish it at any time, even if it's not done. Share it with your parents, grandparents, and siblings.
You will share your portfolio with me and the class by posting a link to it on the Riptide Reader wordpress page. You will be graded based on the quality of your reflections about your learning.
